La-Peira
While current vintages of the wines of La Pèira cannot be acquired here (see here for stockists), we thought to found this little épicerie (especiariá in occitan) simply for the purchase of larger format bottlings, for en primeur offers, for the occasional limited stock of library vintages (ex-domaine), and for otherwise unavailable rarities and oddities only.

Overview

Recorded in late 2014, The 22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time Sessions is Rob Dougan’s first release for almost a decade. Following on from his Grammy-nominated Furious Angels, it features a 75-piece orchestra and 40-piece choir, all recorded at London’s Air Lyndhurst Studios by Jake Jackson and conducted by James Shearman.

The sessions took place on 31st of August, 2014 and so were titled The 22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time Sessions.

The sessions were shot and edited into the 22-minute accompanying film by Marc Swadel + Rob Dougan, with cinematography by James Cronin and camera work by Matt Hill and Charlie Fox and production company Platform 80.

With the 115-piece ensemble, the release features the violin soloist Thomas Bowes on the Vale (Ave Atque Vale).

London Voices (Lord of the Rings, The Passion of the Christ, The Mission by Ennio Morricone) who feature on all tracks most notably Frescobaldi’s Toccata and ‘The Return’.

A Drawing-Down of Blinds takes it title from Wilfred’s Owens:

“What candles may be held to speed them all? Not in the hands of boys, but in their eyes Shall shine the holy glimmers of goodbyes. The pallor of girls’ brows shall be their pall; Their flowers the tenderness of patient minds, And each slow dusk a drawing-down of blinds.”

Vale (Ave Atque Vale) takes its name from Catullus’ poem.

The digital booklet contains a forward detailing the gap between recording.

The Film
